| Imagine a school where all students participate in performing and visual art and music programs, acquire skills and athleticism that allow them to participate at their highest level, speak confidently before their peers and families, discover their passions and enrich their talents, and are expected to contribute to the ‘common good’ on campus and beyond. Envision students and faculty setting trends and establishing new benchmarks with technology; and more importantly, the implementation of this fascinating new tool. Consider a school where every student is truly known, where all seniors apply to and excel in college, where excellences takes many forms, where opportunities for self- discovery abound. Consider high standards, bars set high, and expectations that will challenge both students and faculty in all core curricular and extra-curricular endeavors. Know that the rigor of Berwick’s programs is balanced with a nurturing oversight because Berwick is where each student is truly known. And, envision all of this work and play taking place on a truly breath-taking campus. That school is Berwick Academy. |

| Located in Bath, Maine, on the 145-acre campus formerly the estate of shipbuilder John S. Hyde, the campus is 40 minutes from Portland and 2.5 hours from Boston. Joseph Gauld founded Hyde School in 1966 in deliberate reaction to a system of education he believed was overly preoccupied with students’ abilities and insufficiently focused on their character. The Hyde philosophy embodies the believe that every human being has the potential to achieve personal excellence, and it endeavors to locate, encourage and develop this potential in each of its students. The Character First curriculum combines college prep academics with interscholastic athletics, performing arts and personal growth. The family education program integrates parents from around the country into the school community through regional participation and Family Weekends. |

| The Sharon Academy (TSA) is a Vermont state-approved, independent day school located in beautiful Sharon, Vermont. With 160 students, grades 7-12, TSA offers a lively and academically rigorous academy that seeks to "nurture intelligent, independent, and creative thinking in a small school community, awakening students to their immense potential and the difference they can make in the world".
The community and student focused curriculum at The Sharon Academy is founded on the belief that all students have the potential to change their own lives as well as their communities. Therefore, community is woven into all of our activities: academic, athletic, dramatic, and artistic. Students are not only expected to participate and speak up in the decision making process at school, they are also encouraged to take responsibility for enhancing their own education. From independent studies, to junior and senior exhibition projects, to student driven extracurricular activities, and student-taught electives, TSA students are independent, innovative, and engaged. They make the school what it is.
"Our students remind us daily that the operative word in education is learning not teaching. Learning is the thoughtful, creative and intelligent activity of learners. Learners make learning." - Michael Livingston, Head of School
TSA offers a remarkably affordable private school education. In order to offer accessibility to all students, The Sharon Academy maintains its tuition at the state average ($10,921 for 08-09 school year). Therefore, 75% of our students are publicly funded from their town, and 23% will be first-generation high school graduates.
