Westin Portland Harborview
ISANNE is excited to announce the Business Officers Annual Conference January 8-10, 2018 at the Westin Portland Harborview in Portland, ME.
The Business Officers Executive Committee, led by Linda Lanteigne Magoon, Chief Financial Officer, Thetford Academy, has worked hard this year to bring you engaging, thought-provoking sessions, collaboration with like-professionals and free time to enjoy Portland!
The Monday evening we will host an informal cocktail hour at The Top of The East - the restaurant/bar on the highest floor of our hotel overlooking Portland. Monday night you are free to make dinner reservations on your own and experience Portland’s celebrated ‘Foodie’ culture.
Tuesday morning the conference kicks off with the return of by David Grant, Author and former President and CEO of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation who will build upon his presentation from last year on Helping Employees Understand "Success" - How can we use formative rubrics to define what "success" looks like (and REALLY looks like) for different employee groups? Split across a morning and afternoon workshop, we will work collaboratively with peers to create thoughtful metrics and tools that can be used in practice at our schools.
Session two welcomes Hot Topics in Human Resources for Independent Schools with presenter Grace Lee, Vice President, Legal Affairs, National Association of Business Officers. Independent schools face a wide range of challenges that can cause sleepless nights for even seasoned human resources professionals and school administrators. This session will discuss difficult wage and hour issues, best practices for setting appropriate boundaries with students and preventing abuse, and strategies for managing employee use of social media.
This will be followed by our Cracker Barrell session, lead by Linda Lanteigne Magoon. Bring your pressing questions for discussion with the full group.
Following lunch we will hear from Jennifer Borislow, Founding Principal, Borislow Insurance to discuss The Evolution of Business Manager Leadership. Just a few years ago, the leadership role of a business manager was clearly defined and the deliverables were focused. Today, the business manager’s leadership portfolio is diverse, delivered to a myriad of constituencies is continually evolving. In this presentation, we explore how to understand those different audiences, how to communicate effectively and how to be in control of your leadership imperative.
Next, you will have the opportunity to choose a breakout session – the topics include:
1. Executive Fit - Managing and strategies for overcoming the skills gap for the future Workforce, presented by Sarah Olson of Berry Dunn
2. Employee Engagement, presented by Ross Gibson of The Richards Group
