Spring Heads Conference

ISANNE Spring 2018 Heads Conference

Cliff House - Cape Neddick, Maine

April 4-5, 2018

Please join us April 4-5th at the beautiful Cliff House resort for the Spring 2018 Heads Conference

We will be joined Wednesday afternoon by Lynn Pasquerella, President of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, with her presentation:

On Snowflakes, Chilly Climates, and Weathering the Storm: Overcoming Moral Distress in Leadership for Liberal Education

From controversies around freedom of expression and alumnae allegations of sexual abuse on social media resulting from the “Me Too” campaign to charges from the broader public and donors that independent secondary schools are fostering the snowflake generation that melts at the slightest “abrasion of their sensibilities,” the complexities of leadership are burgeoning for heads of schools. The result is often a type of moral distress. This session will include engaged discussion of the ways in which leaders can overcome moral distress while promoting liberal education and engaged citizenship as the foundation for our nation’s historic mission of educating for democracy.

Wednesday evening, join us for a reception and dinner honoring our Heads who will be departing ISANNE at the end of this school year.

Thursday morning Christina Dotchin, Director of Outreach at the Enrollment Management Association, who will present to us:

What Every Head (and School Administrator) Needs to Know about Enrollment Management

Enrollment management (EM) was first conceived in college admission offices in the 1970s and was characterized by new demographic research and revamped segmented marketing efforts. By the late 1980s, the concept had grown to include all of the functions necessary to attract and retain students. Today, EM hinges on an institution’s ability to integrate through data, to build predictive models for enrollment, and to create varied pathways to enrollment success. Therefore, the work of admission—getting students through the door—is a key component of EM, but is just the beginning. As independent schools are increasingly challenged by the same external forces that have shaped the adoption of EM structures, processes, and policies in higher education, the national conversation on K-12 enrollment management has taken center stage. This presentation is intended to provide independent school leaders with both a high-level overview of EM and some specific examples of EM practice in schools.
