Founded in 1811,Thornton Academy has consistently nourished and expanded upon its traditional history of strong college-preparatory programming. Thorntonoffers students a full range of AP and honors courses, comprehensive offerings in the fine and performing arts, strong academic support services, an advisor/advisee mentoring program, five full-class capacity computer labs with Mac platforms, and extensive extracurricular and athletic opportunities. The performing arts wing includes multiple studios serving dance, theater, vocal and instrumental music, and visual arts classes, as well as a 500 seat auditorium with a professional quality stage equipped with cutting edge lighting and backstage technology. An extensive student activities program offers 22 varsity sports, 14 junior varsity or freshman teams and 22 extracurricular clubs, many of which involve community service components.
