HEAD OF SCHOOL for JULY 1, 2019

Maple Street School in Manchester, Vermont, seeks a new Head of School for July 2019. Nestled in the Green Mountains, the school makes full use of its 23-acre campus and an uplifting, award-winning green building. The school is coed, K-8, with 110 students currently enrolled, of whom 40% receive financial aid.

Maple Street is a joyful academic community that cultivates personal and social responsibility.  Its mission is to nurture intellectual and creative growth through an engaging curriculum. The School’s culture of respect inspires confident learners.

Maple Street was founded in 1998 as an independent school where motivated students could embrace learning, be meaningfully engaged in the visual and performing arts, and participate in athletics. The School’s program continues to focus on academic excellence with an enriched curriculum including language, music and arts for all, an integration of 21st century technology in all studies, environmental and experiential learning opportunities, and a foundation in civic and social responsibility.

Maple Street believes that the many ways to understand and experience life are shaped in part by gender, class, ethnicity, race, religion and sexual orientation, and that a diverse and inclusive community strengthens, expands and empowers us all. By teaching children to appreciate and respond to differences, they are being prepared for the complex and multicultural world in which we live.

In 2005, Maple Street School received an excellence award for the Comprehensive Design of its building, which seeks to be as green as possible. Architecturally, it maximizes natural light in every classroom and heats/cools the building as efficiently as possible.

The school thrives under the governance of a dedicated board and is noted for the excellence of its leadership team, faculty and staff and the loyalty of families, alumni and donors.

The Manchester area, rich in cultural resources and opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing, is accessible to Amtrak and Albany International Airport and only a 3 ½ hour drive from Boston and New York City.

The Board of Trustees seeks a Head of School with significant senior administrative experience who offers dynamic leadership and fully embraces the school’s mission of nurturing intellectual and creative growth.
