Job Description

This position will require an individual to live in our dormitory and be an on-duty member of the residential team. Responsibilities will include working in collaboration with the two other residential staff members as well as the Director of Residential Life. The residential staff will provide support, guidance and create a dynamic, kind and exciting dorm environment for our students. The dorm is the primary residence for our students who range in age from 13 – 18 and is the space on campus which our students identify as their home away from home.

The residential staff position will require an individual to be on duty from 1:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. or a combination of times as determined by the Assistant Head of School and Director of Residential Life.

Dorm Parent Responsibilities

• Help to provide a safe and engaging residential environment for all students – grades 6-12
• Support all aspects of the residential boarding program 
• Meet with the Director of Residential Life as determined by the Director
• Participate in residential training at the beginning of the academic year as well as during the year
• Communicate with the academic teachers, afternoon, weekend and residential life program directors
•  Communicating with the Assistant Head of School and Assistant Dean of Students on any behavioral or disciplinary issues that arise in the dorm
• Maintain positive relationships with Maintenance, Housekeeping, Dining Room, Counseling and Nurses
•  Work in collaboration with the athletic/afternoon coordinator to provide outstanding afternoon programming
• Be responsible for the safety and well-being of all dorm residents
• Working alongside the DoRL and AHOS to execute emergency based drills when necessary
• Be involved in all aspects of school life

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend all school wide events
  • Keep the Director of Residential Life and Assistant Head of School informed regarding student issues and campus life 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by and in support of the Assistant Head and Head of School


  • A bachelor’s degree
    • Leadership experience in residential settings. i.e. college resident advisor, summer camps or other residential settings
      • An individual who has taught and interacted with students with diagnosed learning disabilities - preferred
      • Superior executive skills and the ability to work with a high level of consistency and integrity 
      • Highly-developed communication skills, both verbal and written
      • A strong collaborator with school professionals
      • A sense of humor and optimism along with an unbridled faith in students’ ability to learn and grow
