Hyde School

Profile
Located in Bath, Maine, on the 145-acre campus formerly the estate of shipbuilder John S. Hyde, the campus is 40 minutes from Portland and 2.5 hours from Boston. Joseph Gauld founded Hyde School in 1966 in deliberate reaction to a system of education he believed was overly preoccupied with students’ abilities and insufficiently focused on their character. The Hyde philosophy embodies the believe that every human being has the potential to achieve personal excellence, and it endeavors to locate, encourage and develop this potential in each of its students. The Character First curriculum combines college prep academics with interscholastic athletics, performing arts and personal growth. The family education program integrates parents from around the country into the school community through regional participation and Family Weekends.
