Maine Central Institute
Founded in 1866 by Free Will Baptists, Maine Central Institute (MCI) retains much of its original spirit and philosophy but no longer has a formal affiliation with the church. Serving students from 16 states and 14 countries, MCI is concerned with the welfare of all of its students, regarding each as an individual with individual needs and aspirations. In keeping with its belief in individuality, the school community strives to foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation among all of its members and with the surrounding community. MCI’s facilities include seven main academic buildings and four dormitories. The Math andScience Center is a 23,000-square foot, state-of-the-art building that provides fourteen instructional spaces, two computer classrooms, and a botany area. More than 210 computers are available for student use campus wide. Located in the rural New England town of Pittsfield, MCI is situated in an area that provides opportunities for hiking, skiing, biking, fishing, skating, and snowmobiling. Pittsfield is a safe and nurturing community that supports the growth and overall mission of the school. We offer a rigorous, comprehensive college preparatory curriculum, nationally recognized humanities and AP courses, an extensive ESL program, Bossov Ballet Theatre; a pre-professional ballet program, a post graduate basketball team and a broad range of athletic teams and extra-curricular activities. Providing small classes, individual attention, and dedicated faculty and staff, MCI immerses students in an inspiring learning environment. In this safe and caring atmosphere, students will acquire knowledge, self-esteem, social responsibility and the critical thinking and communication skills necessary for global citizenship and lifelong learning.
