Waynflete’s mission is to engage the imagination and intellect of their students, to guide them toward self-governance and self-knowledge, and to encourage their responsible and caring participation in the world. Our program combines security with challenge, playful exploration with rigorous expectation, and range of experience with depth of inquiry.
Waynflete's rigorous curriculum emphasizes the importance of the individual and encourages students to assume responsibility for, and be participants in, their own learning. Lower, middle, and upper school divisions encompass grades from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. The school strives for a culturally, economically, and geographically diverse student body. Enrolled students currently come from close to 50 communities in Maine.
Waynflete's main campus is located on three acres in Portland's residential West End neighborhood. The school also owns the Fore River Fields, a 30-acre athletic and outdoor education complex. The school’s Arts Center includes a 300-seat theater, an art gallery, four visual art studios, a dance studio, rehearsal space, and a multi-purpose recreation space.
Waynflete's Athletic Program offers a variety of competitive and recreational sports. Students are required to participate in one activity program per season. Options include competitive sports as well as yoga, dance, and other non-competitive activities.
