A 1988 graduate of Thornton Academy, Mr. Menard received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Southern Maine. He later earned a master’s degree in Teaching and Learning, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership. He has served as headmaster of Thornton Academy since the fall of 2012.
Mr. Menard began his career in education at Fryeburg Academy where he worked as a history teacher, coach, class advisor and dorm parent for two years. He joined Thornton Academy’s History Department in 1995, teaching Psychology, Sociology, History and Political Science. Mr. Menard also served as an athletic coach, club advisor and class dean, and became Associate Head of School in 2007. In that role he was charged with developing and starting Thornton’s successful international boarding program, an initiative that has grown from the first year cohort of 45 students seven years ago to the current population of over 150 students from around the world.
Mr. Menard, his wife Lisa and two children reside on the Thornton campus in the Headmaster’s House.
